Nel macchinario informatico il lavoro oggettivato, il lavoro morto, si contrappone materialmente al lavoro vivo come il potere che lo domina capillarmente, in modo invisibile e quasi senza residui; si contrappone ad un lavoro vivo scisso oramai del tutto da ogni abilità manuale e da ogni concretezza, ad un lavoro vivo residuale che, in quanto esclusivamente mentale , vive, di fronte all’immane potenza del lavoro morto e alle infinite abilità del macchinario, tutta la sua insignificanza e subordinazione, l’estrema astrattezza della sua funzione, il suo essere, in quanto attività lavorativa, costantemente dominato e controllato dall’occhio immateriale del sistema. Mentre nel lavoro artigiano il rapporto dell’uomo con l’oggetto del suo lavoro è mediato semplicemente dall’utensile, o meglio, se si considera quest'ultimo come un prolungamento specializzato della sua mano, è un rapporto diretto in cui le finalità coscienti sono possedute integralmente da chi lavora, ed è praticamente assente ogni forma di cooperazione; nelle prime forme di produzione capitalistica, quella manifatturiera, the relationship with the object of the work begins to be mediated by the first machine tools, and work to be split into many partial phases: the first forms of cooperation appear working under the roof of the same establishment.
